Juno puso los cien ojos de Argos en el pavo real en agradecimiento por haber muerto vigilando a una ternera blanca. La ternera, en realidad, era Io, una amante de Júpiter.
En Australia a la constelación del Pavo, inventada por los navegantes Pieter Dirksz Keyser y Fredick de Houtman e incluida en Uranometría de Johann Bayer, la llaman “la cacerola”.
